Album Cover Deconstruction

Lady Gaga
This album cover is of Lady Gaga's The Fame album, she is a very out there kind of artist, everything is about her and she is the main thing to look for whether its in her music videos or at the music awards, the way she dresses is the main thing that people notice about her, so the way that this album cover has been made is almost strange because its just her face and nothing else amazing is really going on. The use of the sunglasses show that she's hiding behind them, almost meaning that in this album she's hiding behind her music, and the music is more important to her than anything else that is going on. The fact that its just her head though suggests that even though she wants it to be about her music, as the artist everything comes down to her. The way that half of her face is shadowed could mean that she wants to hide away in the shadows and let her music talk for her, hence why 'The Fame' is in the light and her face is being hidden away behind the shadowing and the glasses. Her body isn't in this cover, this could mean that she wants to strip away what everyone thinks of her, for being someone that people look at more for what she wears than for her music, she wants people to judge her on the music that she makes and not on what she wears. Her makeup is quite natural, this could mean that behind everything she is actually normal and like everybody else, minus the big glasses. However the fact that the sizing and the use of font of her name here is predominantly bigger than the album name goes against all of this because it just shows that once again it's all about her and her music comes second best, as the font and sizing used for the album name is a lot smaller than her name and at a quick glance you almost don't even see the album name.

The Script
This album cover is by the script, the album name isn't what is normally a album name, this is more about it being their third album than trying to promote one single over the rest, the fact that its called #3 is showing that they are more proud of the fact that they have had the opportunity to bring out a third album full of songs that they knew people would love just as much as them.
The colours used here are all black and white, this suggests that they are simple and want to keep everything as simple as possible and about their music, this is also shown by the fact that their album name is larger than their band logo, this would show that even though they are promoting themselves by having an image of themselves and their band name etc on it, the album and they are all about their music, and that's what they predominantly care about, fame of themselves isn't as important as people liking their music. The amount of blank space on the cover and the fact that they are all looking in different directions into the blank space might suggest that they are looking into the future and there is still a lot to come from them, they are looking into bigger and brighter things. Also the way the image is arranged almost looks like a family tree would, this could suggest that they have all come together to make music, but in the end they have come this far, onto their third album stronger than ever, as family almost, and family stick together. The way that Danny's image is bigger than Mark and Glen's shows that event though they are like a family there is always one that seems to take over, but the other two don't mind because every band needs a front man. Overall this album cover shows that they are a simplistic band that over all think about their music and their love for it over anything else.

Green day
This album cover doesn't really have a lot going on, the band or artist aren't on the front cover, which could mean that they want their music and what they stand for to talk for them and that's all that matters to them. The image of the heart grenade in someones hand could mean that they sing alot about love and the fact that love is like waiting for a grenade to go off, the breakdown of love or a relationship is like waiting for an unexpected grenade to be set off. The fact that someones holding it could suggest that someone has control of it, whether its you or the other person in the relationship, someone is in control of your heart, and they have a tight grip. The fact that the writing is all blocked and big and bold could suggest that they don't like to mess around on things they don't need too, they just like to get it done and over with, the sizing of the bands name is slightly bigger than the album name, this could mean that they want to promote themselves more than the album, but as the album name is only slightly smaller it wouldn't be a bad thing this would also be because of the fact that they aren't actually on the front cover, they have to promote themselves in some way. The colour use in the cover is pretty simple, just red, black and white, the red obviously symbolizes blood, this is shown because the heart is red, and hearts pump around the blood to your body, the fact that the album name is 'American Idiot' suggests that you are an idiot if you let your heart to be controlled like a grenade heart by someone else and American has been thrown in there to show that they are American and proud of it.
